I took my niece, Terah, last night to fill out her very first job application. A lot of preparation went into this. We talked about what to wear, the kinds of questions that might be on the application and we practiced interviewing for two days in the event that someone would want to talk to her right after she filled out the application. She, of course, was very nervous about the whole thing and it brought back memories of applying for my first job.
If you'd like to offer encouragement, or share your first job search story or even offer some advice, please post a comment and I will relay it to her.
My advice was NOT to take a friend with her or cut up during the interview.....sigh.....I would have really liked that job at Dairy Queen......

My story is about my first job. I was a waitress in a cafeteria next to a retirement community in south Florida. My second night on the job there was a table of two elderly woman who were taking all the sweet & low packets off all the tables around them and putting them in their purse. The manager had to ask them to leave and never come back.
My babysitter cancelled at the last minute so I had to take my 3-year-old to my job interview. She colored while I was talking to the manager. They actually hired me! Good luck on your interview!
Oh sweet child! Your aunt knew to include me in this post. I went for my first interview at K-Mart in Georgia. I was so nervous that I put on two shoes, however, one was black and one was blue! Needless to say - They were not color blind. Perhaps the fact that the shoes were no where near the same style might have helped to draw attention to them as well. I now work for lawyers. Keep your chin up and proper MATCHING shoes on!:)

Terah you are very blessed to have a awesome aunt help you. Just remeber first impressions are important. Be confident but humble at the same time. It's not your first and most likely not your last time to interview. Also be prepared to possibly have to answer questions when you think all you are doing is filling out a application. Also remember if you don't get that one job that means God just has something bigger and better for you. By the way your aunt hasn't changed a bit. THAT IS A GOOD THING!! BLESSINGS
Well, sorry it has taken me so long to get to this! The worst job interview I ever had was my last year in college. I interviewed with a firm on campus. All went well. They wanted to fly me to Birmingham for the final interview process. Just before the trip, I came down with a miserable cold, but I didn't even think of trying to reschedule (my first mistake). I flew up the night before and took a big dose of cold medicine in the morning before my all day interview. They must have thought I was a complete zombie! I can vaguely remember them taking me to lunch at the Country Club, but other than that the day is pretty much a blur. I definitely did not make a good impression and I did not get the job! On the other hand, I'm glad. The right job did come along and it was part of the path that God used to bring me to Houston, my husband and my children! Love you, girl!
