The Christmas Geese

Aside from the Bible itself, this is one of the most powerful ways I've heard the Christmas story told, not about the birth of Christ so much as WHY Christ came to earth as a baby to save us all. I do not know who wrote this, but I know that God has used this story to explain the meaning of Christmas. I hope you will share the story below with everyone in your life who you want to share the Gospel with, in a modern day way.

The Christmas Geese

There was once a man who didn't believe in God, and he didn't hesitate to let others know how he felt about religion and religious holidays like Christmas. His wife, however, did believe and she raised their children to also have faith in God and Jesus, despite his disparaging comments.

One snowy Christmas Eve his wife was taking their children to a Christmas Eve service in the farm community in which they lived. She asked him to come but he refused.

"That story is nonsense!" he said. "Why would God lower Himself to come to Earth as a man? That's just ridiculous!" Disappointed, she and the children left and he stayed home.

A while later, the winds grew stronger and the snow turned into a blizzard. As the man looked out the window, all he saw was a blinding snowstorm. He sat down to relax in front of the fire for the evening. Suddenly he heard a loud thump. Something had hit the window. Then another thump. He looked out, but couldn't see more than a few feet.

When the snow let up a little, he ventured outside to see what could have been beating on his window. In the field near his house he saw a flock of wild geese. Apparently they had been flying south for the winter when they got caught in the snowstorm and couldn't go on. They were lost and stranded on his farm, with no food or shelter. They just flapped their wings and flew around the field in low circles, blindly and aimlessly. A couple of them had flown into his window, it seemed.

The man felt sorry for the geese and wanted to help them. The barn would be a great place for them to stay, he thought. It's warm and safe; surely they could spend the night and wait out the storm. So he walked over to the barn and opened the doors wide, then watched and waited, hoping they would notice the open barn and go inside.

The geese just fluttered around aimlessly and didn't seem to notice the barn or realize what it could mean for them. The man tried to get their attention, but that just seemed to scare them and they moved further away. He went into the house and came back out with some bread, broke it up and made a breadcrumbs trail leading to the barn, but they still didn't catch on.

Now he was getting frustrated. He got behind them and tried to shoo them toward the barn, but they only got more scared and scattered in every direction EXCEPT toward the barn. Nothing he did could get them to go into the barn where they would be warm and safe.

"Why don't they follow me?!" he exclaimed. "Can't they see this is the only place where they can survive the storm?" He thought for a moment and realized that they just wouldn't follow a human.

"If only I were a goose, then I could save them," he said out loud.

Then he had an idea. He went into barn, got one of his own geese, and carried it in his arms as he circled around behind the flock of wild geese. He then released it. His goose flew through the flock and straight into the barn - and one by one the other geese followed it to safety!

He stood silently for a moment as the words he had spoken a few minutes earlier replayed in his mind: "If only I were a goose, then I could save them!" Then he thought about what he had said to his wife earlier. "Why would God want to be like us? That's just ridiculous!"

Suddenly it all made sense. That is exactly what God had done. We were like the geese - blind, lost and perishing. God had His Son become like us so He could show us the way and save us. That was the meaning of Christmas, he realized!

As the winds and blinding snow died down, his soul became quiet and pondered this wonderful thought. Suddenly he understood what Christmas was all about, why Christ had come.

Years of doubt and disbelief vanished like the passing storm. He fell to his knees in the snow, and prayed his first prayer: "Thank You, God, for coming in human form
to get me out of the storm!"

My First Christmas In Heaven

There is nothing like a Holiday to emphasize the gaping hole in our lives from a loved one who has passed away. I cannot comprehend how anyone goes through a death without Jesus Christ and the hope of eternity. Having lost my mom last year, it is because I know my mom knew Jesus, that I am able to go through each day of missing her, knowing that each day is one day closer to seeing her again. And, on that day that we are reunited, we will rejoice that there will never be another separation.......ever.

I know there are others of you who will read this today, having been through your own losses this year. People I may never meet, but who understand the pain of missing someone this Christmas. I do not know who wrote this poem below, but I pray that it will soothe, as a bandaid on your aching heart. Someday, we will all be reunited and I am looking forward to that day with great anticipation and the hope of all eternity.

My First Christmas in Heaven

I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below
With tiny lights, like Heaven's stars, reflecting on the snow
The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away the tear
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear
But the music there cannot compare with the Christmas choir here.
I have no words to tell you the joy their voices bring,
For it's beyond description to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me; the pain inside your heart.
But I am not so far away, we really aren't apart.
So please be happy for me, you know I hold you dear.
Be glad I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I sent to you a special gift, from my heavenly home above.
I sent to you a memory of my undying love.
For love is a gift more precious than the purest, finest gold.
It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.

Please love and keep each other as our Father said to do.
For I can't count the blessings or love he has for you.
So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear.
Remember, I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

Holiday Survival Kit

Wondering how you're going to get through Christmas this year? The reason this is so funny is because probably most of us can relate to it! Enjoy!

Christmas Letter From Jesus

(I do not know who wrote this, but it is brilliant. If we followed this, we could probably turn this whole world around.)

A Letter From Jesus Christ, concerning His birthday celebration.

Dear children,

It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking My name out of the season. Maybe you've forgotten that I wasn't actually born during this time of the year and that it was some of your predecessors who decided to celebrate My birthday on what was actually a time of pagan festival. Although I do appreciate being remembered anytime.

How I personally feel about this celebration can probably be most easily understood by those of you who have been blessed with children of your own. I don't care what you call the day. If you want to celebrate my birth just, GET ALONG AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Now, having said that let me go on.

If it bothers you that the town in which you live doesn't allow a scene depicting My birth, then just get rid of a couple of Santas and snowmen and put in a small Nativity scene on your own front lawn. If all My followers did that there wouldn't be any need for such a scene on the town square because there would be many of them all around town.

Stop worrying about the fact that people are calling the tree a holiday tree, instead of a Christmas tree. It was I who made all trees. You can & may remember Me anytime you see any tree. Decorate a grape vine if you wish: I actually spoke of that one in a teaching explaining who I am in relation to you & what each of our tasks were. If you have forgot that one, look up John 15: 1 - 8.

If you want to give Me a present in remembrance of My birth here is my wish list. Choose something from it.

1. Instead of writing protest letters objecting to the way My birthday is being celebrated, write letters of love and hope to soldiers away from home. They are terribly afraid and lonely this time of year. I know, they tell Me all the time.

2.Visit someone in a nursing home. You don't have to know them personally. They just need to know that someone cares about them.

3.Instead of writing George complaining about the wording on the cards his staff sent out this year, why don't you write and tell him that you'll be praying for him and his family this year. Then follow up. It will be nice hearing from you again.

4.Instead of giving your children a lot of gifts you can't afford and they don't need, spend time with them. Tell them the story of My birth, and why I came to live with you down here. Hold them in your arms and remind them that I love them.

5.Pick someone that has hurt you in the past and forgive him or her.

6.Did you know that someone in your town will attempt to take their own life this season because they feel so alone and hopeless? Since you don't know who that person is, try giving everyone you meet a warm smile it could make the difference. Also, you might consider supporting the local Hot-Line: they talk with people like that every day.

7.Instead of nit picking about what the retailer in your town calls the holiday, be patient with the people who work there. Give them a warm smile and a kind word. Even if they aren't allowed to wish you a "Merry Christmas" that doesn't keep you from wishing them one. Then stop shopping there on Sunday. If the store didn't make so much money on that day they'd close and let their employees spend the day at home with their families.

8.If you really want to make a difference, support a missionary, especially one who takes My love & Good News to those who have never heard My name. You may already know someone like that.

9.Here's a good one. There are individuals & whole families in your town who not only will have no "Christmas" tree, but neither will they have any presents to give or receive. If you don't know them (and I suspect you don't) buy some food & a few gifts & give them to the Marines, the Salvation Army or some other charity which believes in Me & they will make the delivery for you.

10.Finally if you want to make a statement about your belief in and loyalty to Me, then behave like a Christian. Don't do things in secret that you wouldn't do in My presence. Let people know by your actions that you are one of mine.

P.S Don't forget; I am God and can take care of Myself. Just love Me & do what I have told you to do. I'll take care of all the rest. Check out the list above & get to work; time is short. I'll help you, but the ball is now in your court. And do have a most blessed Christmas with all those whom you love and remember,

I LOVE YOU

This is great! You won't get through this with a straight face. The song and animals are cute, but the message is very serious. It's about taking care of nature for the animals and you can find out more about the "Do One Thing" project right here. Enjoy this video!

Podiobooks.com - Free Books!

This is a really great site for free books - this works a little differently than just downloading a book. For those of you who listen to Podcasts on iTunes, this is sorta like that - you subscribe to the book and each day you can get a new (or more) chapter of a book. This, I'm guessing is why the books are free - podcasts are free. If you don't want to just listen to a chapter a day - then just subscribe to the book, get your chapter a day, and then once all the chapters are downloaded to iTunes, put the whole book on your iPod and there you go! Check it out, and enjoy!

My nephew played his last game of the season last week. He did a great job! He did not get to start with the team this year, but I can't wait to watch him next year after he's gotten to practice with everyone!

Storm

This picture does not do justice to what the sky looked like from my office last night. We were under a tornado warning and I was a little nervous about leaving work since I live so far but it was already 7:00p so I prayed a quick prayer for safety and headed out. When I got home (safely), it was windy and chilly - now, those of you who know me well know that on June 1st of every year I start praying for windy and chilly and ask God to just warp me into October. So, I was ecstatic last night and decided to walk Sadie around the neighborhood. My niece, Terah, joined me which was great so I could catch up on what's going on with her! Loved it! Fall is coming!

The Printer Divas

Last night my one of my co-workers tried to print something and it jammed. It was quite an ordeal after that. We were all trying to figure out where the paper jam was and we were all offering to hit the printer with a sledge hammer or throw it out the window! One of my co-workers, Ashley, wrote a cute little story about it and took a picture with her phone. I am posting it because it is hilarious! Enjoy!

"We've all experienced it. You push "Enter" and run for the printer to stroke it gently as it calibrates and prepares to print your labels. You've made it through a tough day and had to stay an extra hour just to have the printer all to yourself. While the other MKCSO folks are at the local watering hole drinking their day away, you are staring with fingers crossed at a very heavy piece of machinery who holds your every happiness in its manual tray.

Suddenly, a beep. NOOOOOOOO! You've heard it before...surely it can't be that big of a deal.

As you open and close every single door and latch on the contraption, another co-worker comes to offer her sage advice: "Just kick it!" As unhelpful as that is, you agree. The first kick gets you no where so you scream and begin to re-open and re-close every single door and latch on the dang thing.

Another co-worker hears the commotion and offers more advice: "Throw it out the darn window!" Again, not so helpful. The fourth co-worker (and by far the best looking) calls the "Help" Desk - please notice placement of quotation marks.

So there you are kicking, screaming, opening, closing.....when suddenly there's a shriek (from the pretty one): "THERE!" The paper jam has been discovered!! HUZZAH!!!

With a bit more elbow grease from the youngest of the Printer Divas, the jam is removed and the labels resume printing! Hallelujah!

Lock, Stock & Barrel

It's official! Jonah Seago Finkelstein's adoption is now final! He is ours, irrevocably! As far as we've been concerned, he has been ours all along since his birth - but now the Courts agree with us that he's ours and no one can take him away! He, of course, was oblivious to the proceedings. See, as far as he's been concerned...he's been ours all along.

Discover Houston Haunted Tour!

I want to make a disclaimer there that I do not believe in ghosts. I do not pretend to understand everything about spirits but I believe when we die we go to Heaven or Hell - we do not linger on earth. My bible says "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." That's my story and I'm sticking to it! So anything that is going on in a couple of these pictures, I don't necessarily have an explanation for so I'd like to hear your comments!

Darcy Anne Ramos, September 27 - October 11, 2008

Baby Darcy went to the lap of Jesus at 2:13 am this morning. We are all devastated, but not taken by surprise. We knew she would not get to stay long but, she DID defy every prediction by every doctor. We are all blessed to have known her at all. The lives she has changed are many, and her legacy will live on long after she is gone. Darcy is free and she is no longer in pain. She is whole and perfect. And, while we miss her here, we know we will see her again. I love you, Darcy. You are free, and I will see you soon!

Please pray for the Ramos family as they plan Darcy's Homegoing Celebration. You can also continue to read Mom Tracy's journal online here. You may also leave notes of sympathy and encourage ment there.

Trisomy 18 Hope.org

Hi, all - after I posted Darcy's birth announcement and info about her Trisomy 18 medical condition, I received this link from someone who saw my blog. This web site has info about two Trisomy 18 children, Dawson, who is almost 3 and Kaylen, who I believe just turned 8 years old (what a miracle they are for sure!) and these are their stories, plus a wealth of information on the medical condition, itself. Both of these children are still blessing their families today and that definitely should give hope to other families of Trisomy 18 children! Thanks to Josh and Renae Bradley (parents of Dawson) for sending it to me, and enjoy!

Introducing Darcy Anne - Miracle Baby!!

I'd like to introduce a miracle to you today. A precious family from our church welcomed baby Darcy Anne Ramos, on Saturday, September 27th. Darcy, who was diagnosed as a Trisomy 18 baby early in the pregnancy and who's prognosis was NOT good, has a Great Physician who had other plans. Little Darcy wasn't even expected to make it to birth and then wasn't expected to live more than a couple of hours. But little Darcy is a miracle from God, who not only lived more than a couple of hours, but was sent home from the hospital yesterday to begin life with her parents and siblings! I don't know what God's plans for Darcy are, but OUR plans are to enjoy and savor every single moment we get to have with her! Please check out her web site and you can see pictures and read her mother's journal from conception to birth! I am also including a web site that will explain more about Trisomy 18. Welcome to the world, Darcy Anne!

Hurricane Ike Devastation in Orange and Bridge City

Hi, everyone. These pictures don't BEGIN to do justice to all we saw we when first went back to Orange to check on our families. We couldn't turn our heads a quarter inch without looking at something that had been destroyed by Hurricane Ike. There will be more pictures of our own neighborhood but wanted to get these up first. I've also posted these to Facebook if you want to post it on your own page.

Pre Ike Sky

These pics were taken about 8 hours before Hurricane Ike hit. It was just beginning to get dark and I could not believe how pink the sky was. I had never seen it like this before.

Evening Before Ike

This picture was taken about 9 hours before Ike. My and my brother-in-law were sitting out on the pier enjoying the breeze. The sun was still still shining brightly and the sky was still very blue, but the breeze had really picked up tremendously. Aside from the amazing breeze that seemed to come out of nowhere, you never would have been able to tell that a major Hurricane would hit us just 9 hours later.

Somebunny New To Love!

So, a little bunny rabbit has moved into the lot across the street. I have not seen him in the entire 3 years I've lived here, and now I've seen him every day for the past two weeks. I don't know where he came from or how he got here. He does not appear to be very afraid.....well ok, unless Sadie is chasing him. But, truthfully, he doesn't seem to be very afraid of Sadie either. He lets me get fairly close to him, but when I get too close he sorta just hops off....but not in fear...he doesn't go far...just what he deems to be a safe distance. So, now I guess I'll have to do some research on what rabbits eat so I can start leaving some food. I can't imagine he'd find much in an empty lot. Welcome to the neighborhood little bunny!

The Note

Yesterday I went to Kroger for a Starbucks Frappucino. As I was walking in, a man walked out, with a note pinned to his T-Shirt. I laughed my head off - he just grinned. I said, I don't know what you did, but I hope you don't ever do it again! He laughed and we went our separate ways.....I'd have given anything to have had a camera with me! It was great!

Cofi Playa Jukebox

This is one of the greatest things I've seen lately. You can listen FOR FREE to the Top 100 songs of 1950 to 1979. FOR FREE!! You can also listen by Genre. And, there is a very cool weekly "Name that Tune" challenge. In each challenge, you will hear ten song clips (usually 10 or 15 seconds long). If you can identify 5 correctly, you will get your name on their web site, for your 15 minutes of fame. The best thing about this web site (aside from the music) is that you do not have to create an account. Just click on the year or the genre you want to hear and start listening. The only drawback to this (if we can even call it that) is that you can not download any of the songs and as far as I know you cannot add them to your iTunes playlist either so just wanted to mention that! Check it out and enjoy! Cofi Playa Jukebox

Go a little nuTsie!

I saw this on TV the other night. This is a free service that allows you to listen to other People's iTunes libraries. Is that cool or what? If someone has a nuTsie account, you can access their playlist and listen to it. You can also listen by Genre to songs from everyone's list. The service will just pull out all the say, Christian, or R&B songs from everyone's account, for your listening pleasure. You will not be able to download any of these songs or add them to your own playlist, but pretty much you have access to virtually thousands of songs to listen to. I think it's a great thing! Check it out here! nuTsie

God Bless America!!

I am taking the weekend off but I want to wish a good holiday for all of us. Please remember that a great price was paid for our Freedom here in America. Please pray for our troops and for the families of those who are still fighting for us today, and also the families of those who paid the ultimate price so that we could enjoy all the freedoms we have today, that I believe we take for granted, myself included.

There is Another who paid the greatest and most ultimate price for ALL of us. The Lord Jesus Christ gave His life on the Cross, to pay the ultimate price for ETERNAL FREEDOM for ALL of us. Let us thank Him today also for the priceless gift of Salvation and for keeping America Free - GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
